Tax filing FAQ

As a response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, the IRS has postponed the federal income tax filing and payment deadline to July 15, 2020.

If you want your tax refund faster, you should get it through direct deposit. Direct deposit tax refunds typically land in your account within 21 days of filing.

The IRS also recommends that U.S. taxpayers opt to receive their refund through direct deposit as opposed to a mailed refund, as it is much easier and quicker for both you and the IRS. Already, eight out of 10 taxpayers use direct deposit to receive their tax refund.

We understand that millions of unbanked Americans don’t have a checking account or savings account due to the fees that often come with these accounts. Check out some of the best checking accounts or best online savings accounts listed on our site, many of which have little-to-no fees, so you can get your tax refund faster without facing extra charges.

There are a few reasons why your tax refund could be delayed. For one, you could be waiting longer for your tax refund because you filed your tax return by mail. Your return itself will take some time to make it to the IRS, and then, upon its arrival, it will have to wind its way through the IRS system.Your refund could take even longer if you opted to receive your refund by paper check instead of through direct deposit. To ensure you get your refund as quickly as possible, it’s best to file your taxes electronically and set up your tax refund to come via direct deposit.

Tax returns may also take longer to process in the event the tax return includes errors, is incomplete or requires further review; includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit; or is affected by identity theft or fraud.
